Today is Valentine’s Day. John and I don’t celebrate it as a couple — working in a Hallmark will do that to you — but I do usually buy little trinkets or candies or something for my friends… When I have them.
You see, I don’t make friends easily. I am shy and introverted and constantly anxious. When we first moved to Virginia I was friendly with a lot of people, but friends with no one. All my friends were back in Alabama, but I’m also really terrible about keeping in touch. We were here for nearly three years before I finally found a clique, and that’s more because they adopted me than anything on my part.
It’s so nice to have friends. Especially ones as diverse as these. They range in age from 21 to 52 and I couldn’t love them all more. We don’t always see eye-to-eye, but we are always there for each other. When I was going through a rough patch last quarter, they all went out of their way to try and help me out in whatever way they could. Having friends is really the best.
I know that all sounds so sappy, but that’s what I’m really thankful for this week: Friends.
